Gold-dipped Glass Jars

Hey y’all! I made the loveliest vases today. 😀

I always save empty glass jars instead of throwing them away. There are tons of cute ways to re-purpose them; cute yet simple. A previous post was about designing jars with correction fluid, and this time I tried spray painting them- a DIY that is all over Pinterest and so much fun to try. They turned out to be the most adorable, little things!

I had three jars of different sizes, which I washed and had the labels removed.

I decided to keep the color only to the lower third of the jars to give them a nice color-dipped look. I went with gold and unlike the last time I made sure it is gold!

I covered the portion that I didn’t want colored with some paper and masking tape. The extra length of the paper helped me hold and rotate the jars while spraying. Be sure to firmly press the tape to get a crisp line. For the painting part, you already know the drill; clean the surface, give a light coat, let it set and finish off with another light coat. NEVER spray too heavily or there will be trickling.

But we all know, it’s easier said than done. I got a little too excited and peeled the tape off too soon. And here’s what happened…

The paint came off in flakes. But here’s the good part; I peeled it off in a single large piece and now it can be used like gold leaf (hopefully). So after re-doing the whole thing, this is what the jars looked like.

The tape gave a really nice, defined border to the color.

And with these beauties there came a bonus! I noticed the masking tape looked very pretty with paint on it and the ‘big idea bulb’ was all lit up again!

I removed the tape carefully and put it on my dairy which had a faded gold line across it.
